Lead Pastor:
Pastor J. Larry and Betty McCain
|
Larry served as pastor of Myrtle Avenue Baptist (now Harvest Church) for ten years. While serving there a three bedroom, two bath home was built by the Kendals and a new education wing was completed. During the last year of service there, the church grew and they baptized twenty-seven people. After leaving the Myrtle Ave. Church, Larry served as interim pastor of the Klamath Church for three months. In December of 1979 he began preaching at Trinity. They called him as pastor in February of 1980 and he has served as senior pastor since then. They moved into the 10,000 sq. ft. family life center (a temporary worship unit) on Easter of 1986. It was three years in construction and was paid for within six months of completion. ( See Church History) Betty retired from teaching in 1999 and devotes her time to serving the church. |

Biography

|
Pastor Larry was born in central Texas and finished West High School. He met Betty while working on a double major in Religion and English at Baylor University. They were married on August 31, 1957. They came to Humboldt County in 1958 to start new churches. Betty completed her degree in Education at HSC and taught two years at South Fortuna School.
They have three children, Kathy and John who were born in Ferndale and Laura, who was born in Arcata. All three graduated from Arcata High School and Oklahoma Baptist University.
Larry worked in plywood mills the first seven years in Humboldt, pastoring small congregations at Ferndale and Westhaven. He then completed work for a degree in education and took a job teaching an eighth grade in McKinleyville. While he was teaching there, Betty began a thirty year teaching career in that district. After teaching there for five years, Larry began teaching for Eureka City Schools. He retired from teaching in 1993.
